Stephen King's FIRESTARTER Remake Will Be Directed By Akiva Goldsman
Stephen King's classic novel Firestarter is getting a remake! If you aren't familiar with the original film that featured Martin Sheen and the young Drew Barrymore, the story follows a young girl who develops pyrokinetic abilities and is abducted by a secret government agency that wants to harness her power as a weapon. Take a look at the trailer below and continue reading...
Blumhouse is the production company developing the film and they've hired writer and director Akiva Goldsman to develop it with screenwriter Scott Teems (Rectify). Goldsman hasn't really done much directing work, The Winters Tale is the only movies that I've seen of his that he directed. However, he's an Academy Award-winning screenwriter, who has written a ton of great films such as A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man, and The Dark Tower.
Are we finally in the 80s reboot phase where we see every Stephen King story being developed and remade into movies and TV series? What's next, Cujo? Thanks, Deadline for the heads up.
