Stephen King's IT Has a Monstrous Box Office Weekend! It's the Biggest Opening Ever For a Horror Movie!

This weekend, audiences flocked to movie theaters to watch the big screen adaptation of Stephen King's IT. I personally saw it three times over the weekend! I absolutely loved the film!

It was estimated that the New Line Cinema film would bring in #117.2 million domestically over the weekend. Now final numbers show that the Andrés Muschietti-directed movie ended up pulling in $123.1 million making IT the biggest opening ever for a horror movie! How freakin' cool is that!

There's a long list of other records the film broke as well. It's also the largest 3-day opening weekend for an R-rated film; the 3rd-largest opening in 2017 the largest opening for a September movie; The largest IMAX opening weekend for a movie in September and a horror movie; the largest number of location for an R-rated movie; and it's the largest opening ever for New Line Cinema.

When it comes to the International market, IT earned has earned an extra $62 million from 10,665 screens in 46 markets, which is the biggest opening ever for a horror film. The worldwide box office total is currently at $185.1 million.

If any movie deserves that massive success, it's this one. It was just such an amazing film. The budget for the film was $35 million so it made a huge profit. This guarantees that we will see Chapter 2 get made! The sequel is already in development, but this success will give the studio the confidence it needs to push it forward sooner rather than later.

If you haven't seen IT yet, you need to go! You won't be disappointed.
