Stephen King's MR. MERCEDES Series Gets Picked Up For a Second Season!
If you haven't been watching the series adaptation of Stephen King's Mr. Mercedes, you've been missing out on one hell of a great show! This show has got a talented creative team behind it including writer and producer David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies, Boston Legal), director Jack Bender, along with series star Brendan Gleeson and the rest of the cast.
Season 1 of the series followed a demented killer named Brady Hartsfield (Harry Treadaway) "who taunts a retired police detective Bill Hodges (Gleeson) with a series of lurid letters and emails, forcing the ex-cop to undertake a private, and potentially felonious, crusade to bring the killer to justice before he is able to strike again."
I'm happy to report that the series has been picked up for a season and it will be based on the second book of King's Bill Hodges trilogy, which is called Finders Keepers. If everything goes as planned, we'll get a third season based on the final book End of Watch.
Dennis Lehane (Shutter Island) is also coming on board to help write Season 2, which will consist of 10 one-hour episodes. If you're curious to know what Season 2 will be about, here's the story description:
“Wake up, genius.” So announces deranged fan Morris Bellamy to iconic author John Rothstein, who once created the famous character Jimmy Gold and hasn’t released anything since. Morris is livid, not just because his favorite writer has stopped publishing, but because Jimmy Gold ended up as a sellout. Morris kills his idol and empties his safe of cash, but the real haul is a collection of notebooks containing John Rothstein’s unpublished work...including at least one more Jimmy Gold novel. Morris hides everything away before being locked up for another horrific crime. But upon Morris’s release thirty-five years later, he’s about to discover that teenager Pete Saubers has already found the stolen treasure—and no one but former police detective Bill Hodges, along with his trusted associates Holly Gibney and Jerome Robinson, stands in the way of his vengeance....
When talking about the upcoming season, Christopher Long, head of the Audience Network said:
“We’re thrilled that the first installment of ‘Mr. Mercedes’ resonated with such a wide audience. David E. Kelley, Jack Bender, Dennis Lehane, and Sonar did a masterful job crafting a series that honored the original work by Stephen King. We’re excited to have the opportunity to create a second season with this incredible team.”
Bender added:
“Mr. Mercedes is Stephen King writing about the monsters inside his characters rather than outside,. We were extremely fortunate to attract an amazing cast, led by Brendan Gleeson and Harry Treadaway, to bring these flawed, complex colorful characters to life. With Sonar and AT&T, along with great scripts and our talented team in Charleston, I am thrilled to keep telling this story.”
The series is scheduled to begin production in February 2018 and it will premiere on AT&T's Audience Network.
