Stephen King's THE GIRL WHO LOVED TOM GORDON Finds a Director
A film adaptation of Stephen King’s novel The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon has been in the works for a while now, and the project is moving forward with a director.
Lynne Ramsay, who directed the acclaimed thriller You Were Never Really Here, has jumped on board to helm the adaption and she seems like a solid choice. I liked what she did with You Were Never Really Here, and I’m curious to see what her vision of this story will be. She will direct from a script written by Christy Hall, the co-creator of Netflix's I Am Not Okay With This.
King’s story follows as "nine-year-old Trisha McFarland strays from the path while she and her recently divorced mother and brother take a hike along a branch of the Appalachian Trail. Lost for days, wandering farther and farther astray, Trisha has only her portable radio for comfort. A huge fan of Tom Gordon, a Boston Red Sox relief pitcher, she listens to baseball games and fantasizes that her hero will save her. Nature isn't her only adversary, though - something dangerous may be tracking Trisha through the dark woods."
She begins to believe that she’s being stalked by a supernatural beast known as The God of the Lost, and soon her ordeal becomes a test of both her sanity and her ability to fight for her life.
The late George A. Romero was previously attached to direct this adaptation at one point. Unfortunately, he never got to make the film, but his former wife, Chris Romero, is teaming up with the producers of It to bring it to the big screen. Those producers include Roy Lee and Jon Berg of Vertigo Films as well as Ryan Silbert of Origin Story.
King had this to say in a previous statement about the movie:
“I’m thrilled that my book is being brought to the screen, and that George’s company is involved. Chris (Romero) has worked long and hard to make this project happen.”
This book captivated me while I read it. I couldn’t put it down and blasted through it in a couple of days. I loved this story, so I’m excited to see it brought to the big screen!
