Stephen King's "THE JAUNT" to Get a Series Adaptation by Dave Erickson
Fear The Walking Dead co-creator Dave Erickson has set up a deal with MRC Television and one of the first projects that he’s developing is a series adaptation of Stephen King’s The Jaunt. He will serve as the writer and showrunner of the project.
“The Jaunt” is a short story from King that was originally published in 1981 in The Twilight Zone Magazine. The story is set in the early 24th century and “humans have developed a form of instantaneous teleportation called ‘the Jaunt,’ which enables colonization of the Solar System. Mark Oates and his family are transferred from their home in Schenectady to a new posting on the Mars colony of Whitehead City with Texaco Water.”
“Jaunting” is “a common practice, though people who use the method of travel must be under anesthesia. While jaunting is essentially instantaneous in the real world, if you're awake during the process, you experience nothing but motionless whiteness over hundreds or even millions of years, which - as you might expect - drives people totally insane when they finally emerge on the other side.”
Elise Henderson, President of MRC Television said in a statement:
“We’ve long admired Dave’s visionary creative work and are thrilled to welcome him to MRC. A true master of his craft, he’s the ideal partner to build upon the work of Stephen King, and create and develop more originals as the studio continues to expand.”
This is a fantastic story that will make for a great series. Series! It director Andy Muschietti was originally attached to adapt the story into a feature film, but plans have obviously changed.
