Sterling K. Brown Says Amazon MGM’s Voltron Movie Will Be “Wildly Entertaining” and Teases a Possible Sequel
Sterling K. Brown has a lot on his plate right now, but he’s suiting up for something massive with Amazon MGM Studios’ live-action adaptation of Voltron.
During a San Diego Comic-Con panel for his series Paradise alongside series creator Dan Fogelman, the actor couldn’t resist sharing a few details about the highly anticipated movie, which also stars Rita Ora, John Kim, Daniel Quinn-Toye, and Henry Cavill.
He said: “Rawson Marshall Thurber is the director, the screenwriter. I think he’s come up with a really wonderful vision to reintroduce something that we grew up with in the ’80s to the 2027 crowd.
“It’s heartfelt. It is big. It’s big, bodacious and dynamic, and that’s why it takes probably about 48 weeks of post-production to finish the thing off and get it together. I think things will be wildly entertaining.”
The actor went on to reveal that he’s all in for more if the film takes off. “God-willing we’ll get the chance to do another one,” he said, adding that he would “sign a contract” for a sequel without hesitation.
As for his role in Voltron, Brown kept things under wraps. He wouldn’t confirm if he’s one of the five legendary pilots, or the eccentric helper Coran, who come together to form the mighty robot lion from the classic 1984 animated series Voltron: Defender of the Universe. He did confirm, though, that his character is “someone from the original IP.”
Plot details remain top secret, but the movie is being directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, and an ensemble cast this strong, it’s shaping up to be an event film for longtime fans and a new generation alike.
Meanwhile, Brown and Fogelman also used the panel to hype Season 2 of Paradise, offering an extended first look that featured new cast member Shailene Woodley.
The live-action Voltron movie is currently in post-production and eyeing a 2027 release, and if Brown’s excitement is any indication, fans are in for something pretty cool.
