Steve Carell Amusingly Roasts Marvel and DC in New DESPICABLE ME 4 "Megaverse" Promo Video

Here’s an amusing new promo video for Despicable Me 4 that features Steve Carrell talking about the Mega Minions, which is a team of five Minions "with incredible power" and "zero responsibility."

Carrell goes on to joke about superhero movies by introducing Illumination's "Megaverse” which is obviously inspired by what Marvel Studios and DC Studios have been doing with their own superhero franchises.

Carrell says that there will be "50 interconnected Mega Minions stories" and it features a graphic behind him showing a line-up film and TV shows that will be released over the "the next 100 years."

This is an over-exaggeration of what Kevin Feige does for Marvel every time they announce a new lineup of movies.

Some of the fake titles include Mega Minions: Despicable in Denver and Mega Minions: Electric Gru-Galoo. The ad ends with the website EnterTheMegaverse.com, which directs you to get tickets for Despicable Me 4.

The video's caption also reads, "The hierarchy of power in the Illumination universe is about to change." This is obviously a jab at Dwayne Johnson’s DC movie Black Adam.

This new chapter centers on Gru (Steve Carrell) and Lucy (Kristen Wiig) and their girls, Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier) and Agnes (Madison Polan) “as they welcome a new member to the Gru family, Gru Jr., who is intent on tormenting his dad.

Gru faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina (Sofia Vergara), and the family is forced to go on the run.”

The film also introduces new characters voiced by Joey King, Stephen Colbert, and Chloe Fineman.

The screenplay for the new film is written by Mike White (School of Rock, The White Lotus), and franchise director Chris Renaud (The Secret Life of Pets 2) returns to helm the franchise after being away from it for a decade. He last helmed Despicable Me 2, and this time he is sharing the directing duties with Patrick Delage in his directorial debut.

Despicable Me 4 is set to premiere in theaters on July 3, 2024.
