Steve Carell Talks About His Strange and Hilarious Idea About Rebooting THE OFFICE on the Ellen DeGeneres Show
Steve Carell (The Office, 40 Year Old Virgin, The Morning Show) appeared this week on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and while chatting about embarrassing his kids and working on various projects this year with Cardi B and Billie Eilish, Ellen asked him if he would want to do a reboot of The Office, since so many other shows are doing them, and that series is definitely one that fans are hungry to see come back.
Carell responded and said:
“You know what I thought would be a great for The Office?, not reboot The Office, but take The Office cast and reboot Cheers. So, like I would be Sam, and Jenna would be.. you know like just take different characters.”
Carell then confessed that he thought that was actually a terrible idea, even though Ellen loved it. Then Ellen suggested switching casts with different shows, such as Gilligan’s Island, or Beverly Hillbillies. Carell then laughed and agreed, “I could be Jethro!”
While Carell didn’t take the reboot idea seriously, NBCU’s Bonnie Hammer has taken the idea quite seriously. After acquiring the series rights back from Netflix, she said, “It is my hope and goal that we do an Office reboot,” and “The Office comes back to us in January 2021. It is my hope that we can figure what that great reboot would be,” Hammer said, adding, “We are having conversations.”
I really do hope they can bring back the beloved characters in a perfect way someday that would please the cast and the fans. That would be amazing!
But for now, which classic show would you like to see the cast of The Office remake?
