Steven Knight's Rey Skywalker STAR WARS Script Set to Be Finished by End of November
British writer Steven Knight, best known for penning the films Eastern Promises, Locke, and Spencer, as well as creating the shows Peaky Blinders, See, and All the Light We Cannot See, is working on his script for the upcoming Star Wars: New Jedi Order which is due to hit theaters in 2027. Not only is he working on the story, but according to a recent article from Star Wars News Net, Knight is due to turn his script in to Lucasfilm by the end of November 2023, Thanksgiving Day specifically.
Barring any major issues with the script, this means Lucasfilm should have time to review and give notes back to Knight by Christmas so that production on the film can move forward in 2024.
In April 2023, Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy announced at Star Wars Celebration that Ridley would return to the franchise for a new movie that focuses on Rey rebuilding a new Jedi Order following the events of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Prior to the start of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike in May 2023, Kennedy said in April 2023 that the movie’s script was about a month and a half away from being finished, telling Yahoo:
“We’ve been working on that [film] for a few years and all of that feeds into our overall storytelling. So we’ve just got to a point now where we’ve got a wonderful writer in Steven Knight, he’s come on board and we’re going to see a script probably in the next month and a half that we’ve been working on for quite a while. So we’re getting close.”
The movie is being directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who previously directed episodes of 2022’s Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. Are you looking forward to Star Wars: New Jedi Order?
