Steven Spielberg Adds Josh O’Connor To His Upcoming Sci-Fi Movie
Challengers and The Crown star Josh O’Connor has joined the cast of director Steven Spielberg’s next big film project. O’Connor joins the previously cast Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo and Eve Hewson.
Spielberg is directing the film from a script written by David Koepp (Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull).
The studio has described the untitled Amblin project as a “new original event film,” and while no details have been shared for the movie, it’s said it will incorporate sci-fi elements and involve UFOs.
I’m really curious and excited to learn what Spielberg has got cooking here. I wish we knew more about what this movie will be, but I hope that it ends up being awesome.
Kristie Macosko Krieger, who has collaborated with Spielberg on everything from A.I. Artificial Intelligence to West Side Story, will serve as a producer.
O’Connor is currently shooting the film The Mastermind and he will appear in Rian Johnson’s star-studded Knives Out sequel, Wake Up Dead Man.
Universal Pictures will release the new movie on May 15, 2026.
