Steven Spielberg Looking to Direct a Western and Has a Few in Development Right Now
Director Steven Spielberg has never directed a Western, and it’s a genre that he is looking to eventually dive into. In fact, the filmmaker currently has a few in development. It’s pretty crazy that after all these years Spielberg has never made a Western, and I would love to see what he would do with the genre.
While talking with Yahoo, Spielberg was asked is there were any other genres he'd still like to take on now that he’d made a musical with West Side Story. This was his response:
"I was asked that question over the last forty years of my career, if not longer, and I always said a musical was the one thing I haven't done. The thing I neglected to say, which I've never done, and the one genre that I haven't really tackled yet, is the Western. So, who knows, maybe I'll be putting on spurs someday, who knows?"
The filmmaker then added, "I got a few in development right now, but who's to say which one will spring to the forefront."
Well maybe he’ll get to making his Western after he’s finished making the movie that’s inspired by his own life as a young boy. I hope he makes a Western! I can’t help but think he would do some great things with the genre.
