Steven Spielberg Loved INDIANA JONES 5 and Told the Director "Damn! I Thought I Only Knew How to Make One of These"
Steven Spielberg has watched a completed cut of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the fifth installment in the fan-favorite adventure franchise and he recently shared his thoughts on the film. Spielberg was only an executive producer this time around with The Wolverine and Ford v Ferrari director James Mangold taking over the directing duties. When talking about the movie at Time 100 Summit Spielberg said:
“I just had that experience two nights ago. Bob Iger had a screening for a lot of the Disney executives and I came to the screening along with the director James Mangold. Everybody loved the movie. It’s really, really a good Indiana Jones film. I’m really proud of what Jim has done with it.”
Spielberg added, “When the lights came up I just turned to the group and said, ‘Damn! I thought I was the only one who knew how to make one of these.”
It’s awesome to hear that Spielberg loved the movie! The guy has been involved with this franchise from the beginning so his opinion matters and this is the first time he was able to watch the movie as a spectator and not as a director. I wonder if George Lucas watch the movie yet, or if he’s even interested in watching it.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny picks up with Harrison Ford’s famed archeologist in 1969 as he’s pulled back into another grand adventure involving Voller, a NASA member and ex-Nazi involved with the Moon landing program, who wants to "rectify the world and make it into a better place as he sees fit." He’s looking to correct the mistakes that Hitler made when he was in power with the Dial of Destiney artifact.
The movie stars Harrison Ford, Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Shaunette Renée Wilson (The Resident), and Thomas Kretschmann (Avengers: Age Of Ultron).
The film will open in theaters on June 30, 2023.
