Steven Spielberg has found his next directing gig with a film that will be loosely based on his childhood growing up in Arizona. Spielberg is also co-writing the script with Tony Kushner (Munich, Lincoln). Spielberg has only written a handful of his films, but it makes sense that he would want to write this one because of how close it hits to home for him.

The film has no title, but Michelle Williams is in negotiations to star in a major role that is inspired by Spielberg’s mom but “with a separate and original voice.”

Over the years, Spielberg has talked about how growing up in Arizona was an inspiration for so many of his films from story themes to actual characters. This film will be the first time that the filmmaker will offer some real perspective on the early years of his life and what inspired him to be one of cinema's greatest filmmakers.

Spielberg is currently looking to cast the remaining roles, which include several children at different age levels, and one of them who will be playing young Spielberg.

Spielberg will start shooting the film this summer and it’s expected to be released sometime in 2022.
