Steven Spielberg has cast several of the adult characters for his next film project, which is loosely based on the filmmaker’s childhood. The characters in the film are inspired by his own family members, and now he is looking to cast a young version of himself.

It’s been revealed that the movie is titled The Fabelmans, and the casting director for the film, Cindy Tolan, is holding an open casting call to find kid and teen actors for the film. One character in particular is named Sammy, who is the lead character in the film and the character who will be inspired by Spielberg himself.

They are looking for a white male between the ages of 14-18 for a teenage version of Sammy, and a white male between the ages of 6-8 for the child version of Sammy.

Paul Dano (Love & Mercy, The Batman) is set to play Sammy’s father. He will join the previously cast Michelle Williams, who is taking on a role inspired by Sammy’s mom. Seth Rogan also stars in the film as the favorite uncle. The characters are said to have a separate and original voice.

Spielberg is also co-writing the script with Tony Kushner (Munich, Lincoln). Production on the film starts this summer and is eyeing a 2022 release.

It’ll be interesting to see how Spielberg envisions his life growing up in this movie, and as a long-time fan of Spielberg, I’m excited to see the film!
