Steven Yeun Explains the Meaning of His Words at the End of THE WALKING DEAD Season 7 Premiere
The Walking Dead season seven premiere was absolutely brutal! I already knew what was going to go down, but seeing it play out the way it did was just so damn depressing. I had to watch a couple episodes of Frasier before I went to bed to try and cheer myself up.
I'm sure you've all seen the episode by now, but if you haven't I suggest you don't read any further because I am going to get into some major spoiler territory.
Before we get into the spoiler talk, here is a preview, promo spot, and some photos of the upcoming second episode of season seven. The episode is called "The Well," and this is the brief summary: "For a number of familiar faces, a new, well-established community seems too good to be true."
Now on to the spoiler talk! Seeing Abraham and Glenn being beaten to a bloody pulp was so freakin' unnerving. This series will truly never be the same now that Negan has taken over. I have no idea how Rick and his friends are going to survive under this guy's rule.
Abraham went out telling Negan to suck his nuts, which is exactly what you'd expect Abraham to say. Then there was poor Glenn, and his death was absolutely heartbreaking. We knew that it was going to come because he dies at the hands of Negan in the comics.
After his head was brutally bashed in with one of his eyes popping out of his head, he turned to Maggie and managed to get his last words out. Those words were:
"Maggie, I'll find you."
During a recent interview with AMC, Steven Yeun explained what those last words mean:
"I think Glenn was fighting to find words and 'Maggie, I’ll find you' was a callback to another experience and another time when he really was trying to find her. Maybe it was a subconscious thought or maybe something he held onto for a while that was his driving force, and when he got smashed in the head, it just brought it to the forefront. There are so many ways to look at it."
There have been a lot of spiritual ties and references for these characters, so when I first made out what Glenn said I thought that he meant he would find her in the afterlife. Like Yeun says, there are so many ways to look at it. What was your first thought upon hearing Glenn's last words? How did you take this meaning?
