Steven Yeun Talks INVINCIBLE Season 3 and Says They're Currently "Banking Episodes"

Several months ago it was revealed that Robert Kirkman and his creative team were already working on Invincible Season 3. Now, actor Steven Yeun has offered an update saying they’re working on getting the new season out faster than they did Season 2, and they are currently “banking episodes” for Season 3.

During an interview with Collider, Yeun said:

“For us, we know that this big break was not fun. We’ve been working hard to get a lot of backlog done. We wanna time this animation thing appropriately. So, yeah, we’ve been working. We’re banking episodes, we know what’s going on.”

There’s no information on when Season 3 will be released, but they are trying to get it out in a timely manner. Kirkman previously talked about what he’s seen from the show’s development of Season 3, saying:

"I've seen animatics of every episode (in season 3). So I've seen things moving. I've seen the actors all edited together. I've seen our amazing directing crew and all the board artists have some form of the show together. And so I've seen the entire season in rough form, laid out. I've seen all the movements I've seen where the season ends up and it's really cool. Like I say, it, it's an escalating show. Season one was where it's at, season two is where it's at. Season three is a little bit higher. And so it's tough talking about season three now because no one's seen season two yet, but it's really cool being as far along as we are and having the confidence to know, 'Oh, you like season one? If you like season one, you're going to love season two and if you really love season two, you're really, really going to love season three.' So yeah, we have that kind of like broad view of what we've been doing behind the scenes. And so now it's just a process of wrapping it all up so we can finally share it with the world."

He also discussed the future of the animated series:

“I’m trying not to pin it down to a number, because it is somewhat of a moving target. I think in the seven-to-eight-season range seems like it would be enough. But there could be some things we move through a little faster, some things we expand. If we’re fortunate enough to go for a good long time, I think that would be enough to cover the entire comic. And there are some things along the way that didn’t get into the comic that I’d like to do. I think it’d be cool to have some episodes here and there that are completely original. So that’s part of the plan moving forward.”

And when sharing insight on the development of the series in general, he said:

"This is a very complicated show. There's a lot of work going into it. Making an animated series is kind of like assembling a factory and getting that factory running, and now that we have everything in place, this is going to be the longest gap there will ever be between seasons. From this point on, every gap between seasons will be smaller."

The story for the series “revolves around 18-year-old Mark Grayson, who's just like every other guy his age—except his father is (or was) the most powerful superhero on the planet. Still reeling from Nolan's betrayal in Season One, Mark struggles to rebuild his life as he faces a host of new threats, all while battling his greatest fear – that he might become his father without even knowing it.”

The series stars Steven Yeun, with Sandra Oh, Zazie Beetz, Grey DeLisle, Chris Diamantopoulos, Walton Goggins, Gillian Jacobs, Jason Mantzoukas, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton, Zachary Quinto, Andrew Rannells, Kevin Michael Richardson, Seth Rogen, and J.K. Simmons.

The second season of Invincible hits Prime Video on November 3rd.
