STRANGER THINGS Creators Reveal Alternate Ending For Doomed Fan Favorite Season 4 Character

If you haven’t finished watching Stranger Things 4 yet, you might want to skip this as it involves the doomed fate of one of the main characters of the story.

The leader of the Hellfire Club, Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn), was such a great character this season! Everyone loved Eddie, but unfortunately, he didn’t make it. In the finale of the season, he sacrificed himself to buy Steve, Nancy, and Robin more time to defeat Vecna.

He was ultimately swarmed by demobats in the Upside Down and they tore him up pretty good. He ultimately tragically dies in Dustin’s arms.

The Duffer Brothers recently shared what an alternate ending for the character would have looked like had he survived, but that would have been just as tragic. You see, Eddie was always going to be a doomed character. In an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Matt Duffer said:

"In a way, we saw Eddie as a bit of a doomed character. Even imagining the flip side of that where he does survive the battle is not a great life awaiting Eddie back in the right side up either. He was always really designed from the get-go as a doomed character."

Ross Duffer added that the story could only conclude with his death as he was always going to be "a tragic character. There was never any other arc for him and there was no 'how do you survive this?'“ He explained:

"At the very end, you see people still drawing devil horns on his head – no one in Hawkins is going to accept a supernatural explanation for this. He would have wound up in jail and this fantasy that he would have been able to walk and graduate sadly was not ever a realistic outcome for him."

Yeah, that’s understandable. Munson just found himself in a very rough situation and the story of Eddie was just so tragic. But, there are a lot of fan theories that Eddie will come back in Stranger Things 5. There are some great theories and I would love nothing more than for Eddie to come back in some way, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
