STRANGER THINGS Creators Say Series Will End with "Us Wanting More" and Tease Spinoff Potential

The Duffer Bros. have confirmed that Stranger Things will come to an end with Season 5. While we don’t have any details on how the series will end, they do explain that when it does, it will feel like it’s not the end. So, even though they are ending it, it will leave fans wanting more.

During an interview with SFX magazine, creators Ross and Matt Duffer discussed the show’s ending and the possible future spinoffs that may come of it. When talking about ending the series with Season 5, Matt said:

"Even with five it’s going to feel like it’s ending a little early. We’re going to feel like we still have a lot more gas left in the tank. But I think that it’s better to end there with us wanting more. That’s why ending at five felt like the right move."

I don’t know if I like that. It better properly close off the story because I don’t want any lingering questions or a cliffhanger that will never be resolved. They’ve done a great job with the show so far, so I’m sure that they will give it the proper ending it deserves.

As for the potential spinoffs, Matt went on to say:

"We haven’t told anyone our plans! Not even Netflix! We have some ideas. In terms of if we were to do any sort of a spin-off, or any continuation of Stranger Things, for us the bar was always, ‘Is the idea exciting enough that we feel the pull of wanting to do it again?’ I want to feel the pull of, ‘God, I really want to do this. I feel really, really excited about this.’ So that’s why we’re being careful about what that is and whether we move forward with it or not."

Ross added that whatever they do next with the franchise, it has to feel like its own unique thing:

"The key for us is that it needs to feel like its own distinct thing, not that we’re just retreading what we’ve already done, because what would be the point of that? I do think we have something that could be pretty exciting. So we’ll see…"

I like that they are thinking this way. If they do decide to move forward with an idea that they like, the Duffer Bros. plan to be "heavily involved," but they would need someone to run any possible spin-off on a "day-to-day basis." Sign me up!
