STRANGER THINGS Creators Shoot Down Popular Fan Theory Debunking the Imagined Finale's Plot
As the final season of Stranger Things is finally in development, fans are getting excited, but it has taken an awfully long time due to delays and strikes, and we still have a pretty long wait! It’s frustrating, but as we ruminate on what the story could entail, bringing the beloved series to a close, we can at least rule out one idea that has made the rounds on the fans forums.
In a recent interview with Metro at the West End premiere of the prequel stage play Stranger Things: The First Shadow, the creators of the series, The Duffer Brothers, were asked about the fan theory that this whole series is just the imagined acting out of a very involved Dungeons & Dragons game that is being played by the show’s characters.
Matt jokingly responded first, saying:
“That is correct. That is the ending…. No.”
Ross added:
“That would be the equivalent of, ‘That’s all a dream.’ No, I assure you that is not how we’re going to end the show. We’ve known where we’ve been going for a while. And we feel comfortable with it; hopefully, it satisfies everyone. We’ll see.”
The first few times that idea was used, it was a really great idea. But it’s been done now, which is why people are even wondering if that could be the plotline. I’m relieved to hear the Duffers aren’t going that route. It would have felt like a major copout, and a real disappointment to the fans who’ve loved the original storytelling done on this series as a whole.
I don’t know how the series will wrap up, but I’m excited to watch it unfold. Do you have any fans theories you think are real possibilities we could see play out in the final season?
