STRANGER THINGS Director Rebecca Thomas Set to Direct Amblin's Sc-Fi Film INTELLIGENT LIFE

Stranger Things director Rebecca Thomas has landed another high-profile movie directing gig. A couple weeks ago it was announced that she would be developing a James Wan-produced sci-fi-thriller called Malignant.

THR is now reporting that she has been hired by Amblin Entertainment to direct another sci-fi film called Intelligent Life. The original script for the film was written by Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World, Star Wars: Episode IX) and Derek Connolly. Thomas will do some work on the script as well.

The story centers on a U.N. delegate tasked with being Earth's representative when humanity makes contact with alien life, and then he falls in love with a mysterious woman who turns out to be an alien.

This certainly sounds like the kind of film that Amblin would make. Trevorrow and producer Frank Marshall offered a joint statement, saying:

"Rebecca beautifully captured the alienation we often feel amongst our fellow humans in her first feature. We can’t wait to see her explore those themes further in a story about our place in the universe."

Thomas' first feature film was Electrick Children, which is a solid film worth checking out. The film was previously being developed by Ava DuVernay and Lupita Nyong'o was set to star. Neither one of them are a part of the film's production now, though. She is also set to direct a live-action film based on The Little Mermaid for Universal Pictures.
