STRANGER THINGS Season 3 Was Influenced By an Unlikely 80's Comedy... FLETCH

We've already heard that Stranger Things Season 3 was inspired by the horror films of John Carpenter as well as the 1985 Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg film Back to the Future. Now we've learned of another movie from the 80s that served as a heavy influence for the movie and it's one that I would have never expected. The 1985 Chevy Chase comedy classic... Fletch!

The news came from David Harbour while talking to Variety about the cinematic influences behind the third season of Stranger Things. He said:

"The Duffers are so specific each year with the movies. And Fletch is one movie we get to play around and have some fun with this season, which you wouldn’t expect from Stranger Things and you wouldn’t expect from the Spielberg universe and you certainly wouldn’t expect from a darker season."

For those of you not familiar with Fletch, you need to watch those movies! There are two of them and they're hilarious! Chase plays an investigative reporter named Irwin "Fletch" Fletcher, a "veritable chameleon, investigative reporter who might drive his editor up the wall, but he always produces great pieces for the newspaper. When his next story is about the drug trade taking place on the beach, Fletch goes undercover as a homeless man."

In case you're wondering how Fletch might fit in with Stranger Things, the report says that it might be related to the casting of Jake Busey, who plays a character named Bruce. He is a Hawkins Post reporter who is said to have "questionable morals and a sick sense of humor." Maybe he'll find himself caught up in an investigation of the supernatural occurrences that are happening in Hawkins.
