STRANGER THINGS 3 Will Play More With The Bromance of Dustin and Steve
The Stranger Things franchise is so much fun and one of the unexpected aspects of Season 2 that I enjoyed was seeing a friendship form between Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) and Steve (Joe Keery). For those of you hoping to see that friendship continue and explored more in Stranger Things Season 3, your wish has been granted. They will get plenty of screen time together. During an interview with EW, Matarazzo said:
“You definitely see more of that. That’s what I really like about Matt and Ross: They know what fans like and they roll with it.”
The upcoming season picks up in the summer of 1985 and co-creator Matt Duffer explained that this next chapter of the story will explore the theme of change:
“We wanted to explore the theme of change. The season takes place during the last summer before high school. The kids are growing up, and that transition is going to be messy and awkward and painful. Are they able to grow up without growing apart?”
As for the villainous Mind Flayer, Matt goes on to tease that even though Eleven closed the gate to the Upside Down, it will “find another way into Hawkins.… It’s just a matter of time.” Then, of course, there’s Hopper (David Harbour), who is struggling to raise Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), a telekinetic teen who’s now in a relationship with Mike (Finn Wolfhard). So, things are getting awkward with that, but Hopper will also see more action. Harbour says:
“It thrusts him into a discussion with Joyce [Winona Ryder]. She’s able to offer me some advice on how to deal with being a single parent and how to, like, you know, stop being so damn controlling. This season, Hopper does a lot of really big, like, action-y things. But he’s fatter than you’ve ever seen him and less capable of hurting people, but a little more capable because he’s just like a big elephant.”
Stranger Things 3 debuts on Netflix on July 4th. I’ve also included a couple of new photos that you can see above and below.
