STRANGER THINGS: TALES FROM ’85 Trailer Teases an Untold Winter Horror Story
Netflix has released the first trailer for Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, and it looks like the horrors of Hawkin still has a few nasty surprises hiding under the snow.
The new animated series expands the world of Stranger Things with a fresh story set during the winter of 1985, giving fans more time with the characters while pushing them into dangerous new territory. It also looks like a lot of fun!
The show is a spin-off of Stranger Things, coming from showrunner and executive producer Eric Robles, with The Duffer Bros. returning as executive producers. The series premieres on Netflix this spring, and the newly released trailer makes it clear this isn’t just a lightweight side adventure.
According to the official synopsis, the story drops us back into Hawkins at a moment when things almost feel normal again.
“In the winter of 1985, snow blankets the town and the horrors of the Upside Down are finally fading. Our heroes Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max have settled back into a normal life of D&D, snowball fights, and quiet days.
“But beneath the ice, something terrifying has awakened. Could it be from the Upside Down? From the depths of Hawkins Lab? Or from somewhere else entirely? Our heroes must race to solve this mystery and save Hawkins in this untold story set in the Stranger Things universe.”
The animation opens up space to explore moments the live-action series never had time to slow down for, and Robles leaned into that idea when talking about the show.
“We get to spend time with these kids in a way that you did not have time to in the flagship series. We were able to freeze time and really go on these never-before-told adventures with them in this timeline,” Robles told Netflix Tudum.
“We want the audience to feel that these kids are in danger, the stakes are real, and bad things can happen to anyone. And things do happen that are very scary in a sense, so that really makes the danger for the kids that much more tangible.”
The voice cast includes Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Luca Diaz as Mike, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, and Benjamin Plessala as Will. They’re joined by Brett Gipson as Hopper and Jeremy Jordan as Steve, alongside Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips.
The visual style in the trailer feels energetic and expressive while still staying true to the eerie tone fans expect from the franchise.
Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 officially premieres on Netflix on April 23, 2026. Enjoy the trailer!
