STRANGER THINGS - The Duffer Bros. Say There Will Be “Justice for Barb” in Season 2
I’ve watched Stranger Things through twice already, and it was even better the second time around because there was a lot of stuff in there that I didn’t notice the first time around. If you get a chance to watch it again, you should definitely do that! I just want to see season two already, but we’ll probably have to wait awhile before that happens. The second season hasn’t even been officially announced yet! But that doesn’t mean creators Matt and Ross Duffer won’t talk about the future of the show.
During an interview with IGN, the Duffer Bros. talked about the fate of two big characters in the series who didn’t have a very happy ending in the first season. Things especially didn’t look good for Barb who looked pretty damn dead when we last saw her. When asked if there was a chance she could return, because in sci-fi stories anything can happen, Matt Duffer said:
“I can’t see it happening. But Barb will not be forgotten. We’ll make sure there’s some justice for Barb. People get very frustrated, understandably, that the town doesn’t seem to be really dealing with Barb. That stuff is all happening. We’re just not spending any screen time on it.
"It’s not like her parents are like ‘Oh Barb left. She died!’ Season one actually takes place over the course of six or seven days – it’s a really short period of time. So part of what we want to do with hypothetical season two is to explore the repercussions of everything that happened.”
So Barb is gone for good, but at least there will be some kind of justice for her. They also talk about Doctor Brenner, who was brutally attacked by the monster in season one. We didn’t really see him die, though, so his fate was kind of left open. Matt reveals that that isn’t the last we’ve seen of the character.
“I would say that if we were going to kill Brenner… as an audience member watching the show, if that was his death, that would be very unsatisfying to me – when the monster jumps on him and we cut away. He would deserve much more than that as an ending. So yes, there’s a possibility of seeing him again.”
That’s good to hear. Brenner is a great character, and I was hoping they would explore him a bit more. I’m curious to know how exactly they envision his end because they obviously want to take it to a brutal level.
All we need now is for Netflix to green light the second season and get it rolling!
