STREET FIGHTER Film and TV Rights Picked Up by Legendary Entertainment; Feature Film in Development

Legendary Entertainment has landed an exclusive license to the live-action film and television rights for the popular Capcom fighting video game franchise Street Fighter. So, it looks like we’re about to see some cool Street Fighter projects at some point in the future!

A feature film is already in development, and all of these projects will be co-developed and produced in conjunction with Capcom. There are no details to share regarding the film that’s in the works or any of the other projects that may come out of this partnership.

As a long-time fan of Street Fighter, I’m excited that we’re going to see another movie and see what these other live-action projects are going to be! I remember that original 1994 movie, I was so excited about it! However, even as a kid I knew what a good movie was and a bad moviewas. I walked out of that film so disappointed, it has its fanbase, though! I think I’ll revisit it soon, it’s been a while.

All these years later, there’s a good chance that we might actually see a proper Street Fighter movie! But, there’s always the chance that it could end up like the most recent attempt to revive the Mortal Kombat franchise. That first movie was not good.

It’s a shame because in the past we’ve seen these really cool fan-made web series for both Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. The fans seem to get it right, but once the projects are steered by the studio executives, things fall apart.

The iconic Street Fighter franchise launched in 1987, and it’s become one of the most well-known and highest-grossing video game franchises of all time. The next chapter in the franchise, Street Fighter 6, is slated for release June 2, 2023.

What would you like to see in a live-action Street Fighter movie!?
