STREET FIGHTER Movie Loses TALK TO ME Directors Danny and Michael Philippou

Shortly after the horror film Talk To Me became a hit, directors Danny and Michael Philippou jumped on board to develop a feature film adaptation of Street Fighter for Legendary.

Well, they are no longer attached to the project. According to insiders scheduling is part of the reason they parted ways as “Legendary and Capcom were hoping to begin sooner than later.”

But, the Philippous shifted their focus to a film project titled Bring Her Back, which reteams with their Talk to Me studio A24. That project, which will star Sally Hawkins and Billy Barratt, begins shooting later this month in Australia.

Legendary is now on the hunt for a new filmmaker to take on Street Fighter.

No story details were ever shared regarding the story, but, the directors have said that they were given creative freedom on the project.

Michael commented on how the movie “has an amazing lore, characters, and world.” Danny then added: “With Street Fighter, Legendary, [it appears] that they’re going to let us take control and really do our thing with it. It’s very exciting.”

Now they won’t be doing anything with it! But, that’s ok. It always seemed like an odd film project for them to be involved with in the first place. I was curious to see what they would do with it, but now the vision of this movie will be in the hands of another filmmaker.

We’ll just have to wait and see who that filmmaker will be.
