Studio Ghibli Confirms They Are Working on Two New Films in 2020!
If you’re a fan of the animated films that Studio Ghibli has created over the years, I’ve got some great news for you! After a few years of not releasing a film, the studio has confirmed that they are working on two of them, one of which will be Hayao Miyazaki's first feature film since coming out of retirement.
i-D is reporting that the iconic Japanese animation studio revealed its plans as part of their annual New Year's message. This is when they dropped the news of a second project alongside the Miyazaki-directed feature film Kimi-tachi wa Dō Ikiru ka (How Do You Live?).
There are no release dates for the films, but How Do You Live? is said to likely be released between 2021 and 2022. The film doesn’t really have a deadline. Miyazaki just wants to make sure the film that he releases is perfect.
Miyazaki’s film is an adaptation of Yoshino Genzaburo’s story from 1937 and the story “centers on a middle school boy named Honda Junichi. The student lives a quiet life and comes to learn more about adolescence as he exchanges letters with his uncle. The pair grow and learn from one another as Honda grows bored of his pristine life. However, the uncle’s wise words manage to challenge Honda into doing more with his life than what has come to be expected.”
Studio Ghibli did not provide any further details on the films, but I’m happy to hear that they currently have two projects in development.
