Studio Approached TERRIFIER Director About Rebooting the Horror Franchise for a Wider Audience

Terrifier franchise director Damien Leone says he was approached by a big mainstream studio to reboot his horror franchise for a wider audience, but that’s something he was not interested in doing.

During an interview with Total Film, the filmmaker explained: "They wanted to reboot it for a wider audience. That’s not what I was interested in. They would say, 'It’s gotta be rated R, it can’t be as gory as you made it.'"

Well, that’s kind of the whole point of the franchise, the insane amounts of blood and gore, doing something that the studios don’t want you to do. That’s what make the Terrifier franchise so punk rock. It goes against the grain.

Leone went on to say: "I knew they’d never let me shoot the first 10 minutes of what I wanted to do [in Terrifier 3]. So I thought, 'Let’s just stay true to what this franchise is.'"

The upcoming third movie is said to be the most insane yet, with scenes that even caused Art the Clown actor David Howard Thornton to almost throw up.

Leone said of the studio that approached him, "They were so curious as to what I did with so little money."

That’s hilarious! These big studios have no idea how to make a great low-budget film anymore. They don’t need to be spending hundreds of millions of dollars on their movies! They can make great films with great storie for so little if they wanted to, but they don’t know how.

In Terrifier 3, Art the Clown is out on a mission to brutally kill during the Christmas season. This looks like another grotesque Terrifier movie for the fans that crave lots of blood in their movies.

Leone has promised that this next installment will be the goriest film in the franchise.

This next chapter of the story is set five years after the events of Terrifier 2. Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) is set to unleash another round of chaos on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they peacefully drift off to sleep on Christmas Eve.

Returning cast includes Lauren LaVera (Sienna), Samantha Scaffidi (Victoria Heyes), Elliot Fullam (Jonathan Shaw) and AEW superstar Chris Jericho (Burke), with Daniel Roebuck set to debut as Santa Claus.

Makeup effects legend Tom SaviniJason Patric, Antonella Rose, Krsy Fox, Clint Howard, and Jon Abrahams also appear.

Terrifier 3 opens exclusively in theaters nationwide on October 11, 2024.
