Studios Bidding for the Chance to Bring ELF ON THE SHELF to the Big Screen

There’s a major bidding war going on between the studios who would like a chance at bringing the popular Christmas story of Elf on the Shelf to the big screen. Sisters Chanda Bell and Christa Pitts wrote the story with their mother, Carol Aebersold, that became a phenomenon in millions of households based on the tradition they celebrated in their home growing up.

For those of you living under a rock, the story of the elf on the shelf brings an elf into your home during the month of December, and each day the elf watches over the child(ren) in the house, making sure they are being good in preparation for Christmas. He or she reports back to the North Pole, and each night gets into some sort of hijinx that the parent(s) have to clean up the next day, because parents don’t have enough going on in the month of December. It’s delightful.

Deadline reports that the plan for the franchise includes “an animated or live action CG hybrid film, that will broaden to TV and preschool shows. The basic premise focuses on a cast of characters that includes elf pets and the Elf on the Shelf characters that are adopted by families. They do more than monitor which kids have been naughty and nice.”

I’m sure this will be a huge hit with kids. Studios and streamers are all showing interest, so we will have to wait and see where it lands.
