Stunning Footage of Jon Favreau's THE LION KING Screened at D23 and Hugh Jackman Might Be Cast as Scar
During the big live-action film presentation at Disney's D23 Expo director Jon Favreau showed off the very first footage from his live action adaptation of The Lion King! It was absolutely stunning! I was completely blown away by the footage screened. If you thought The Jungle Book was good, just wait until you see what The Lion King is going to look like! It was pretty mind-blowing.
The scene they showed was a shot-for-shot recreation of the opening scene of the original animated film. Only this time everything was photorealistic. Nothing shown looked like it was CGI, but it totally was! The CG animation was insane! I included the original animated opening of the film for you to watch below. When you watch it just imagine it with real animals.
It's also rumored that Hugh Jackman might be taking on the role of the villain Scar in the film. The rumor comes from Omega Underground. Then Jackman shared this photo from Disneyland with the caption... "Partners".

The studio hasn't confirmed or denied Jackman's involvement, but if he ends up providing the voice of Scar, that would be awesome!
James Earl Jones will be reprising his role as Mufasa in the film, Donald Glover is taking on the role of Simba, Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen will play Timon and Pumbaa, and John Oliver is playing Zazu, who looks great in the movie!
The Lion King is set to hit theaters on July 19th, 2019.
