Stuntmen React To and Discuss THE MANDALORIAN and How There Were 400 to 500 Takes To Shoot One Fight Scene

The gang at Corridor Crew is back with another edition of Stuntmen React, and they brought in special guest and stuntwoman Lauren Mary Kim to talk about all things stunts.

In this episode, Kim talks about her stunt work on Marvel’s Daredevil series, as well as the first season of The Mandalorian, where she was part of an entire fight sequence as The Armorer fighting off a gang of Stormtroopers. In the video, Kim described the process of filming the fight and says that they did 400 to 500 takes!

“That was probably one of the most strenuous fights I’ve ever had to do. As a oner [one take], we never did it as pieces, we did the whole fight from top to bottom. I think we did like 400, 500 oners… We shot so many different angles… I died, I died.”

According to Kim, the fight was shot in just one day and was directed by Dave Filoni:

“Usually, the stunt coordinator shoots like a 'previs' [pre-visual], they have an idea of how it should be edited so they shoot towards the edit. With The Mandalorian, they like to get a lot of different angles, so they can really choose and see which one is the best for each moment. They're very particular with what their look is, so that's why they shoot so many different angles.”

Lots of cool and interesting stuff to learn here about stunts, so check it out!
