The new Mortal Kombat movie is going to be unleashed in all its bloody glory this weekend, and if it has a flawless victory and is a success, fans can expect to see more Mortal Kambat movies. In fact, Warner Bros. signed Sub-Zero actor Joe Taslim up for four more sequels.

The actor himself revealed the news in a recent interview with Variety and added, “If this one’s successful, maybe we do more.” When sharing his own experience growing up with the game, he went on to say:

“I was born in South Sumatra. We were poor so I didn’t have the console because it’s expensive. I went to my friend’s house every day to play the game. But you get there and there are like 10 kids lining up. Who wins keeps playing…so it takes me to get to my part like 40 minutes.”

Well, now he’s Sub-Zero, and he doesn’t have to wait to play the game, he just gets to live it. Taslim is an incredible martial artist, and I’m super stoked that he’s playing Sub-Zero, and from what I’ve seen, he’s going to be freakin’ awesome in the role!

In the film, “MMA fighter Cole Young, accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage—or why Outworld's Emperor Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Fearing for his family's safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana—the immense power from within his soul—in time to save not only his family, but to stop Outworld once and for all?”

The movie also stars Lewis Tan as Cole Young; Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade; Josh Lawson as Kano; Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden; Mehcad Brooks as Jackson “Jax” Bridges; Ludi Lin as Liu Kang; with Chin Han as Shang Tsung; and Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion. Also featured are Max Huang as Kung Lao; Sisi Stringer as Mileena; Matilda Kimber as Emily Young; and Laura Brent as Allison Young.

The film comes to us from producer James Wan and director Simon McQuoid. The movie will be released in theaters and on HBO Max on April 23rd.
