SUCCESSION Creator Jesse Armstrong to Develop Film for HBO About a Financial Crisis

Succession creator Jesse Armstrong is developing an original movie for HBO Films that is said to “focus on four friends who convene during a dramatic international financial crisis.”

Succession was a great series filled with interesting characters that kept audiences invested and engaged with the series. Armstrong won seven Emmy Awards for the series, and it will be interesting to see how this next project of his will turn out.

Armstrong is teaming up with Succession executive producer Frank Rich for the project, and Armstrong is currently writing the script, with a production start eyed for later this year. Casting is also currently underway.

Succession ended its four-season run in 2022. It told the story of the Roy family and the battle for control over its media empire, the show became one of the most acclaimed television series of the 21st century, winning 19 Emmys, including three for best drama series.

Armstrong also worked on projects such as the British sitcom Peep Show as well as the dramedy Fresh Meat. He also worked as a writer on Veep and Black Mirror.

As for his film credits, he earned an Oscar nomination for co-writing 2009’s In the Loop, starring Peter Capaldi. He most recently wrote the dark comedy Downhill, starring Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
