SUICIDE SQUAD Director David Ayer Shares His Thoughts on a Director's Cut For HBO Max

After it was announced that Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League would be getting a release on HBO Max, a lot of DC fans wondered if director David Ayer would get to do the same thing with Suicide Squad.

It’s been made clear in the past that the Suicide Squad film that Warner Bros. released was not the cut that David Ayer wanted to release. When a fan posed the possibility of seeing Ayer’s cut of the film on HBO Max, Ayer responded with:

“This is a good question. My cut would be easy to complete. It would be incredibly cathartic for me. It’s exhausting getting your ass kicked for a film that got the Edward Scissorhands treatment. The film I made has never been seen.”

Warner Bros. opened up the floodgates for this to happen, but in the end, it’s up to the studio if this is something they want to pursue or not. Hey, if it happened for Justice League, anything is possible! If Zack Snyder’s Justice League ends up being a success, maybe Suicide Squad will happen.

I actually enjoyed certain aspects of Suicide Squad and while I don’t need to see Ayer’s cut of the film, like Justice League, if they decide to release it, I’ll watch it. It’s not like releasing it will hurt anything at this point.

In case you’re wondering what The Suicide Squad director James Gunn thinks about this, a fan asked him about it on Twitter and in response he said he'd "be okay with whatever @DavidAyerMovies & Warners wanted to release with that no problem."

Would you like to see a director’s cut of Suicide Squad?
