SUICIDE SQUAD Sequel Might Start Filming in 2018

Suicide Squad hit theaters last August with a line-up of iconic DC villains like Joker (Jared Leto), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and Deadshot (Will Smith), among others. Despite the film's disapproval by critics, it did very well at the box office, earning more than $325 million domestically, with a global total of more than $745 million. Those are the kind of numbers that usually scream SEQUEL and now one of Suicide Squad’s cast members is giving us an idea as to when the film might start shooting. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter Joel Kinnaman gave some insight:

“As far as I know they’re writing the script and I think the plan is to shoot it sometime in 2018, but that could change. I think I’ll definitely come back for it.”
“Ultimately, I’d love for David Ayer to direct it, but if he doesn’t want to direct it then someone who is great with character and that’s able to ground the story and maybe put these characters in a more normal situation. It would be really interesting to see these crazy characters interact with regular people as well.”

Suicide Squad director David Ayer has moved on from the sequel to direct a different movie, but the fact that one of the cast members has a shooting date in his head it could mean the studio is close to hiring a new director. Mel Gibson was in talks to direct the sequel earlier this year and he is reportedly the studio's first choice to direct, but nothing has been confirmed since then.

What do you guys think, would Mel Gibson make a good director for the continuation of this franchise? Do you even want a sequel for this movie?
