SUICIDE SQUAD Will Feature a "Ragged Romantic Triangle" Involving Harley Quinn

David Ayer’s Suicide Squad is going to bring something fresh and new to comic book films due to the fact that it focuses on a team of villains called Task Force X. As you’ve seen, it will also give us a radically different Joker that is unlike anything we’ve seen before.

There’s still a lot that we don’t know about the story, but we’ve been learning little bits and pieces of it over the past year. Thanks to an interview with Empire, we’ve learned a couple new things from Will Smith and the director.

According to Smith, the film will feature some kind of love triangle between Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and of course, The Joker. Smith revealed in the interview that Deadshot has got his eye on Harley, and not just for mission purposes.

“Harley is the biggest troublemaker, but Deadshot’s actually eyeballing her a little bit. There’s a pretty ragged romantic triangle there.”

Ayer added that Harley is trying to escape the Joker's influence in the story, and getting involved with another guy is going to be part of that.

“It’s about her breaking free of the Joker and becoming this fully actualised, independent person. That really is a metaphor for everyone’s journey here.”

A relationship between Harley and Deadshot isn’t a new story arc. It’s been explored in the comics as well. This little relationship is sure to rile up The Joker and cause a crazy conflict between the characters. Smith goes on to give us a little background on his character and how it relates to the opening of the film, saying:

“As the movie opens, he has a really big career score. He’s looking to turn over a new leaf with his daughter after the hit, but it goes wrong. It goes terribly, terribly wrong. And it lands him in Belle Reve for life.”

We’ve still got a while before we see how Suicide Squad turns out, but we’ve got teases of information like this to keep our interest piqued until it’s released on August 5th, 2016.
