Summer Glau Would Be "Torn" on a FIREFLY Revival, but She Would Return If It Happened
Fans of Joss Whedon’s Firefly would love to see the series get revived. At this point I doubt it’ll ever happen, but ya never know… crazier things have happened in Hollywood. If it did happen, it would be awesome to see the original cast come back.
During a panel at FAN EXPO Canada, Summer Glau was asked if she would be up for revisiting the show if it was revived, and while she is hesitant, if it did happen, she would jump on board, she says she “wouldn’t be able to stay away” from it.
“I think that... I’m torn. I’m torn, because the story is like the underdog story about underdogs. I think that part of the magic about Firefly is that it didn’t last, and that all of you are the ones keeping it alive.”
She does make a good point there. There is an extra level of magic and mystique surrounding Firefly because it was cancelled way too soon. She continued:
“I’ve loved all of the different interpretations that you guys have come up with, a lot of the fan fiction and the comic books, I think those have been beautiful ways of continuing the story. And of course, if there was ever any kind of reboot, I would be there with bells on. I wouldn’t be able to stay away.”
I’ve read some of those comics and while they are good and it’s great that the story continues with those, it would still be great to see the series brought back. If it ever was, Glau says:
“There’s a little part of me that wonders if we would recapture what it is we all love about it so much. Because it’s sort of ours. And I don’t know, I don’t know if it was on today, if it would be the same. So I don’t know, I’m just torn. I’m on two worlds on that.”
I think the fans would embrace it with open arms, but would it carry that same magic and spirit as the original? We may never know.
