Teaser Trailer For The Great Film THELMA About an Granny Who Embarks on Her Own Mission: Impossible
Magnolia has released the first teaser trailer for its upcoming action thriller Thelma, which is the best movie that I saw at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year! This movie introduces us to an unlikely action hero and delivers a charming, humorous, and entertaining cinematic experience.
In the film, "Thelma Post is a feisty 93-year-old grandmother who gets conned by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson and sets out on a treacherous quest across Los Angeles, accompanied by an aging friend and his motorized scooter, to reclaim what was taken from her.”
The movie stars June Squibb, in the first leading film role of her 70-year career. She “portrays the strong-willed Thelma with grit and determination, demonstrating that she is more than capable of taking care of business – despite what her daughter Gail, son-in-law Alan, or grandson Danny might believe." Squibb even performed most of her own stunts!
The movie was written and directed by Josh Margolin and it also stars Parker Posey as Thelma's daughter, Clark Gregg as her son-in-law, and Fred Hechinger as her grandson.
Thelma is actually inspired by the director’s own grandmother who was almost the victim of a phone scam similar to what the film deals with. So, the film is what he imagined his grandma would do if she was actually scammed.
Thelma will be released in theaters June 21. You can read my review of the film here.
