THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE Sequel Officially Titled SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE

Nintendo and Illumination have officially revealed the title for the highly anticipated sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The film will be called The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and is set to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.

The new title pulls directly from Nintendo’s 2007 hit Wii game Super Mario Galaxy, which sent Mario soaring into space for one of the franchise’s most beloved adventures.

The big announcement came during Friday’s Nintendo Direct presentation, just days before the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. video game, which was first released on September 13, 1985.

Fans also got a quick first look at the movie during the Direct. The teaser showed Mario napping under a tree with Princess Peach’s castle in the background before the camera slowly drifted up into the stars.

A few familiar faces made cameo appearances too, including a Monty Mole digging underground, Cheep Cheeps splashing through a stream, and Toads running around the castle courtyard.

The returning cast includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

The first Super Mario Bros. Movie was a monster hit. It raked in $1.36 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing video game adaptation to date and securing a spot as the fifth highest-grossing animated film ever, just behind Ne Zha 2, Inside Out 2, The Lion King, and Frozen 2.

The film followed Mario and Luigi, two Brooklyn plumbers who are pulled into the Mushroom Kingdom where Mario teams up with Peach, Toad, and Donkey Kong to save his brother from the clutches of Bowser.

Nintendo isn’t stopping with Mario either. The gaming giant has already partnered with Sony Pictures for a live-action Legend of Zelda movie, set to release on March 26, 2027. That film will be directed by Wes Ball and star Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link.

With The Super Mario Galaxy Movie blasting off in 2026 and The Legend of Zelda coming the following year, it looks like Nintendo fans are about to have a truly epic few years at the movies.
