Super Weird Yet Wonderful First Trailer for the Musical CATS
The first trailer has been released for the upcoming feature film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic Broadway musical Cats. It’s nothing like what I expected it to be. It looks very weird and strange, but at the same time it also looks kinda fantastic.
The movie is visually unlike anything that I’ve seen before, and I can see how some people might find it creepy. But I love the music from this musical. My dad is an actor and singer, so when I was growing up, musicals like Cats were just a part of life. The music in the film actually sounds pretty great.
Cats was adapted for the big screen by Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech, Les Misérables) and the film has an incredible ensemble cast that includes James Corden, Judi Dench, Jason Derulo, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson, Ian McKellen, Taylor Swift, and Rebel Wilson and introduces Royal Ballet principal dancer Francesca Hayward in her feature film debut.
The musical tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make what is known as "the Jellicle choice" and decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life. The plot is actually pretty insane.
The screenplay for the film was written by Lee Hall (Billy Elliot). Cats opens in theaters December 20, 2019. Watch the trailer for the film below and let us know what you think. Will you watch it?
