Supergirl Actress Sasha Calle Joins Mike Flanagan’s THE EXORCIST

The next chapter of The Exorcist is starting to take shape, and it just added a seriously exciting new face. Sasha Calle has officially joined the cast of the upcoming horror film from filmmaker Mike Flanagan, and this project is quickly becoming one of the most intriguing genre releases on the horizon.

Fresh off the success of The Rip, which has remained in Netflix’s top 10 global film list for six weeks, Calle is stepping into the world of demonic possession for Universal’s next installment of the iconic franchise. The film hits theaters on Friday, March 12, 2027, and it’s currently shooting in New York City.

Calle’s role is being kept tightly under wraps, and so is most of the plot. What we do know is that this isn’t a follow-up to 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer. Instead, Flanagan is crafting an all-new story set within The Exorcist universe.

Flanagan is writing and directing the film, and he’s also producing through his Red Room Pictures banner. He’s joined by David Robinson for Morgan Creek Entertainment and Jason Blum for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster.

The cast is already impressive with Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane are all on board.

Calle has been building serious momentum over the last few years. She stars opposite Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in Joe Carnahan’s Netflix crime thriller The Rip.

Before that, she made her feature film debut as Supergirl in Warner Bros.’ The Flash, becoming the first Latina actress to portray the iconic superhero in a major studio film. Even though the film had a complicated theatrical run, her performance stood out and introduced her to a massive global audience.

She also appeared in Daniel Minahan’s On Swift Horses, acting alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jacob Elordi, Will Poulter, and Diego Calva. Then there’s In the Summers, which won both the Grand Jury and Directing Awards at Sundance 2024. Up next, she’ll star opposite Colin Farrell in Season 2 of Apple’s Sugar.

It’s an interesting moment for The Exorcist franchise. After mixed reactions to The Exorcist: Believer, this new direction with Flanagan at the helm feels like a creative reset.

If you’ve followed his previous horror work, you know he tends to lean into character-driven stories with emotional weight layered into the terror. Pair that sensibility with a fresh cast led by actors like Johansson, Ejiofor, and now Calle, and there’s real potential here.

Universal is clearly positioning this as a major horror release for 2027. With production underway in New York and a cast this strong, The Exorcist is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated genre films on the calendar.
