SUPERGIRL Lands a Series Order at CBS

TV SupergirlCBS by Joey Paur

CBS has confirmed that the new Supergirl series has been ordered to series for the 2015-16 season. Greg Berlanti is producing the series through Warner Bros. TV, and it’s the third DC Comics property Berlanti has helped bring to the small screen. He is also working on Arrow and The Flash

Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist (Glee, Whiplash) and tells the story of Kara Danvers/Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin, "who was born on the planet Krypton and escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she has been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be."

The rest of the cast includes Calista Flockhart, who will play Kara’s boss at CatCo, Cat Grant; Mehcad Brooks, who will play Kara’s love interest, Jimmy Olsen; Chyler Leigh, who will be Kara’s doctor sister, Alex Danvers; David Harewood as supervillain Hank Henshaw, known as Cyborg Superman in the DC world; and Laura Benanti, who will play Kara’s birth mother, Alura Zor-El, in a big recurring arc.

On top of that, Helen Slater (Supergirl 1984) and Dean Cain from the series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman will both have roles in the series, but we don’t know what those are yet.

I never watch anything on CBS, but it looks like that’s going to change with the arrival of Supergirl.
