SUPERMAN Flies to a Massive $22.5 Million in Previews - Biggest Box Office Start of 2025

Superman is officially back and audiences showed up early.

James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooted DC Universe is off to a strong start with Superman pulling in a mighty $22.5 million from box office previews, making it the biggest preview haul of 2025 so far.

That’s enough to leap over Disney’s Lilo & Stitch remake ($14.5 million) and even surpass Gunn’s own Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which earned $17.5 million in previews.

The studio’s hoping this is just the beginning. Industry projections for Superman’s domestic opening are floating anywhere between $100 million and $140 million, with Warner Bros. and some trackers hedging toward a conservative $100–110 million estimate.

But with strong early reactions and the goodwill of being a clean reboot, some are eyeing a bigger launch, closer to $120–130 million. Internationally, it's expected to add another $100 million or more, setting the stage for a $200+ million global debut.

That kind of number would be a major win for DC Studios as a whole. The franchise desperately needed a fresh start after a rocky streak that included The Flash, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, and Blue Beetle, all of which underperformed or flopped.

To put things in perspective, Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel brought in $21 million in previews back in 2013 and went on to open with $116 million. The sequel Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice pulled $27.7 million in previews before launching with $166 million.

Gunn’s version with David Corenswet as Superman now enters the arena with a lighter tone, a fresh face, and a new ensemble of heroes.

All signs point to Superman easily flying past last week’s box office champ, Jurassic World Rebirth, which is expected to bring in just $35–45 million in its second weekend, which is a sharp 50–60% drop from its debut.

With this kind of momentum, Superman will be the jolt the DCU desperately needed.
