SUPERMAN Star Rachel Brosnahan Teases a Modern Lois Lane Grappling with Fake News and the Death of Journalism

James Gunn’s upcoming Superman is looking like it will deliver a great new superhero story and at the same time it will be tackling timely issues.

The teaser trailer gave fans a fun glimpse of Metropolis and its iconic Daily Planet newsroom, but according to Rachel Brosnahan, who stars as Lois Lane, this iteration of Superman’s world dives into some modern challenges facing journalism.

At a recent press event, Brosnahan shared her admiration for the character and talked about how the new film brings Lois Lane into today’s landscape of media sensationalism and fake news.

Brosnahan said: “She’s somebody who is ambitious and courageous and hungry and determined to get the greatest story almost at any cost. I’ve always loved this character and was so excited by the opportunity to bring all of those things that have been true of her in every iteration.”

Lois Lane’s profession has always been central to her identity, and Brosnahan pointed out how the evolving definition of journalism gives the character a unique ability to stay relevant across decades.

“One of the things I love about this character is that almost more than any other character in these comics, and in the movies, she evolves to fit what it would mean to be an intrepid journalist of each generation or each decade that she’s presented in.

“Today we’re living in a world where print journalism to some is perhaps an endangered art form, and she’s somebody who has dedicated her entire life to it.”

In Superman: Lois is fighting to keep journalism alive and she’s chasing truth in an era saturated with misinformation. Brosnahan hinted that her portrayal of Lois will highlight the journalist’s determination and refusal to back down.

“She’s somebody who doesn’t understand what the word ‘no’ means, and it’s motivating for her. We definitely see that side of her in this film.”

Superman‘s teaser trailer is now online. The film has a release date of July 11, 2025.
