Surprise! Netflix Cancels Marvel's THE PUNISHER and JESSICA JONES

As we all expected, Netflix has cancelled Marvel’s The Punisher a month after season two premiered. Jessica Jones has also been cancelled prior to the release of its third season. Yes, Jessica Jones season three will still air on Netflix, but that will be the last of the Marvel and Netflix shows to air.

Netflix confirmed the news to Deadline saying:

Marvel’s The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix. Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal, delivered an acclaimed and compelling series for fans, and we are proud to showcase their work on Netflix for years to come.

“In addition, in reviewing our Marvel programming, we have decided that the upcoming third season will also be the final season for Marvel’s Jessica Jones. We are grateful to showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, star Krysten Ritter and the entire cast and crew, for three incredible seasons of this groundbreaking series, which was recognized by the Peabody Awards among many others.

“We are grateful to Marvel for five years of our fruitful partnership and thank the passionate fans who have followed these series from the beginning.”

While this isn’t surprising news, it’s still kinda sad to see Marvel and Netflix completely cut ties after bringing us some really cool shows! Jon Bernthal posted this in response to the cancellation:

While the Netflix and Marvel relationship has come to a close, Marvel is building a new one with Hulu as they are developing several Marvel animated shows together. Hulu hopes that relationship will lead to bigger and better things. Then, of course, there’s the future of Disney+ to look forward to with all of the Marvel shows that they are currently developing.
