Susan Downey Offers Update on SHERLOCK HOLMES 3 Saying It's "A Priority" For Robert Downey Jr. and Their Company
Early on in the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Robert Downey Jr. was insanely busy bringing the Iron Man films to life alongside another franchise, his Sherlock Holmes films. RDJ played the famed detective, with Jude Law in the role of his sidekick Watson, and they made two successful films in 2009 and 2011, with fans wondering when we would see their return.
We’ve been hearing about Sherlock Holmes 3 for years now, and just last year, director Dexter Fletcher (Rocketman) offered an update on the project, saying it got derailed by Covid, but it’s still in the works.
Now we have another vague update on the film, with producer Susan Downey at least confirming her husband’s continued interest, telling The Wrap:
“Well, here’s what I can tell you. And Amanda can attest to this. Prior to this, we had lunch together with Robert, the three of us. And it was a very specific topic of conversation. So yes, it is in the hopper. We’re going to do it when it’s right, with the right people, but it is a priority for the company and a priority for Robert.”
The Amanda she refers to is the Downey’s producing partner, Amanda Burrell. So it sounds like it’s on their minds, and somewhere in the pipeline. There’s no reason they shouldn’t move forward with a third film. The franchise does well in the box office, and RDJ has more time on his hands with his time at Marvel wrapped up. We will keep you posted as the movie develops. Are you looking forward to Sherlock Holmes 3?
