SUSPIRIA Remake Director Luca Guadagnino Wants to Make a New Film Version of THE MUMMY
Suspiria and Bones and All director Luca Guadagnino seems to be enjoying making dark and horrific films. His recent films have been pretty disturbing, and he’d like to bring his demented and nightmarish filmmaking style to a classic Universal monster, The Mummy.
During a recent interview with Collider, Guadagnino was asked about what other horror film he’d like to reboot and this was his reply:
"Oh, my god. That's an incredible question that I didn't prepare myself [for]. Oh, my god, what should I do? I think it would be amazing to do something about The Mummy."
We’ve seen reboots of The Mummy with Brendan Fraser’s 1999 film, which earned multiple sequels, while Tom Cruise starred in a 2017 remake that was intended to kick off an entire series of Universal Monsters reboots, but that one just completely bombed at the box office. The filmmaker when on to explain why The Mummy appeals to him saying:
"It's a rotten body in rotten bandages, so what's inside is [as] interesting as what's outside. It should be very scary and very, very terminal ... It should be a little movie but with a lot of depth and very scary."
He went on to point out how Gremlins and The Howling director Joe Dante also attempted to develop a reboot but that project never came together saying:
"There is a Joe Dante Mummy that never happened that I feel so bad about because Joe is such a master and I am sure he would have made something incredible.”
Honestly, I would like to see what Guadagnino would do with a new Mummy movie, but I can’t help but think that Joe Dante film would have been pretty incredible as well! Would you like to see Guadagnino make a Mummy movie?
