Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger "Disliked Each Other Immensely" During the '80s and '90s
Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger are good friends now, and they’ve appeared in films with each other and carved pumpkins together, but that always wasn’t the case. During the 1980s and 1990s when they were box office rivals, they actually hated each other!
Stallone recently opened up about this in a recent interview with Forbes. It was always suspected at the time that they didn’t get along, and now that’s been confirmed. Stallone shared:
“We really disliked each other immensely. We were… this may sound a little vain, but I think we were pioneering a kind of genre at that time and it hasn’t been seen since really. So the competition, because it’s his nature, he is very competitive and so am I… and I just thought it actually helped, but off-screen we were still competitive and that was not a healthy thing at all, but we’ve become really good friends.”
While speaking on a recent episode of The Jonathan Ross Show (via Insider), Stallone also said: “We couldn’t stand to be in the same galaxy together for a while. We truly, truly loathed each other.”
That’s pretty wild! Now the two seem to enjoy working together and spending time with each other, which is great! Schwarzenegger appeared in Stallone’s action franchise The Expendables and they also appeared in the 2013 action movie Escape Plan. It’d been cool to see them, star in another action film together at some point!
During their rivalry, Stallone starred in action films such as Rambo, Cobra, Tango and Cash, The Specialist, Judge Dredd, and more, while Schwarzenegger starred in The Terminator, Conan: The Barbarian, Predator, Commando, and more.
Who were you a bigger fan of in the ‘80s and ‘90s? Stallone or Schwarzenegger?
