Sylvester Stallone Announces That CREED II is His Last Time Playing Rocky Balboa
I love the Rocky and Creed films and I especially love the character Rocky Balboa. He’s just such a likable character and he’s been wonderfully played by Sylvester Stallone over the years.
As I watched Creed II, I was once again reminded of why I love this character and his humility. The way he sees the world through his eyes and the advice that he offers is powerful stuff!
Well, Stallone has announced that Creed II is the last time that we’ll see him take on the role of Rocky. We all knew this was eventually going to come, but after watching Creed II, I was hoping for at least one more outing.
On the bright side, at least Stallone brought an end to the character on a high uplifting note. Here’s the video announcement that Stallone posted on Instagram. It looks like this speech was shot on the final day of production on Creed II.
If you can’t watch the video for some reason, here’s what Stallone says:
“This is probably my last rodeo because what I thought happened, it has happened, I never expected. I thought Rocky was over in 2006, and I was very happy with that. Then all of a sudden this young man presented himself, and the whole story changed. It went on to a new generation, new problems, new adventures. And I couldn’t be happier because as I step back, as my story has been told, there’s a whole new world that’s gonna be opening up for the audience, for this generation. Thank you very much, Stephen. And definitely you, Michael, for making that possible. Now you have to carry the mantle.”
So, there’s a good chance that we will see a Creed III, but Rocky won’t be included in the story. I imagine that the next time we hear Rocky’s name in a Creed film it will come with the news that he has passed away.
What do you think about Sylvester Stallone retiring from the role of Rocky? I’m feeling a little bitter sweet about it. But, I’m happy if he’s happy.
