Sylvester Stallone Says Would Have Liked to Play Nick Fury for Marvel
Sylvester Stallone is already a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a small capacity by taking on the role of Starhawk in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Starhawk is a member of the Ravagers, and the actor has teased his return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. I hope that they expand his character a bit more.
There’s another character in the MCU that Stallone would have liked to play, though. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he was asked about the time he was almost cast as Superman in Richard Donner’s movie, and the question came up if there's another comic book character he wants to play that he hasn’t played yet. He said it would Nick Fury, and explained why:
"I don't look like any comic-book character. Like I could have never played The Terminator. No one would make a robot with a crooked mouth and voice that sounds like a pallbearer. It just doesn't work. But yes. Who was the guy Sam Jackson ended up playing? Yeah. I thought I could have done something like that, where I'm not the main guy."
Stallone would have been interesting in the role of Fury, but I don’t think I’d trade Samuel L. Jackson in for him. Jackson is just so damn fun as Fury!
Stallone will next appear in Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King. The story follows the New York City Italian mobster who is forced to relocate to the most unlikely of places—Tulsa, Oklahoma, after spending 25 years in prison after being unceremoniously exiled by his boss. The series is set in present day, and the mobster is faced with the startling task of reestablishing his Italian mafia family in the modernized, straight-shooting town of Tulsa. There, Sal encounters surprising and unsuspecting characters who follow him along his unconventional path to power.
What do you think Stallone wanting to play Nick Fury? Do you think he would have been good in the role?
